FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shippensburg, PA -- Eight people were safely rescued from the Zipper ride tonight after an electrical issue with the ride caused a motor malfunction.  Power was immediately shut down to the ride and fire personnel from Cumberland Valley Hose Company and West End Fire & Rescue were dispatched to begin extracting the six adults and two children that were on board.  Crews responded quickly and professionally, and all ride passengers were removed safely.

The Zipper had been inspected by state officials earlier in the day and was determined to be safe for operation.  Pennwood Shows, owners of the rides, have confirmed that a state inspector will be present early on Wednesday morning to examine the mechanical and electrical components of the ride in order to determine what caused the malfunction.  All rides are inspected daily to ensure safety of passengers.

The Shippensburg Community Fair runs daily through Saturday, July 25.  Pennwood Shows and D&K Amusements of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania own and operate the rides at the annual event.
