2011 Fair Queen Contestants
Courtney Catherine Hayes,
18, is the daughter of Melissa and Michael Hayes, and the granddaughter
of Jack Watson, Cathy Crider and Edith Hayes. Courtney’s brother Logan
will be a junior at SASHS.
Courtney is a 2011 graduate of Shippensburg
Area Senior High School, where she graduated with honors.
Courtney was inducted into the National
Honor Society as a junior.
She has been a member of Student
Council and was also selected as a Student of the Month by the
Shippensburg Women’s Club. Courtney is also this year’s recipient of the
Albert W. Freeman PreMedical Scholarship, which is awarded to a
Shippensburg student entering the field of medicine. Courtney attended
classes at Shippensburg University during her senior year at SASHS.
Courtney was selected by Summit Health’s Health
Careers Institute as a participant in their shadowing program located at
the Chambersburg Hospital during the fall 2010 semester. While
participating in this program, Courtney obtained valuable experiences to
include witnessing multiple live births, which helped to validate her
ultimate goal of becoming a Neonatologist. She has volunteered at The
Chambersburg Hospital for over 200 hours. Courtney enjoys running, and throughout her high
school career she participated and lettered in Cross Country and Track &
Field.
Courtney’s
hobbies include spending time with family and friends, shopping,
traveling, watching the University of Oklahoma Sooners football team and
going to the beach.
She has been a skating car hop at the
Sonic Drive-In, located in Chambersburg, since it opened in July 2010.
In the fall, Courtney will be attending the
University of Pittsburgh to major in biology.
She will be attending Medical School at
the completion of her Bachelor’s degree.
